In a recent Houzz feature, Mitchell Parker offers five "bathroom makeovers to learn about budgets, special features, splurging, saving and more," all within the most typical bathroom size found in a home: 8' by 5'. Here I outline 2 of my favorite remodels, which provide excellent insight for any homeowner considering a bathroom revamp:
The first remodel goes "from retro to whoa" with the removal of a wall and new plumbing, given the age of the home. Because older homes have plumbing that may have issues, the article also recommends building "a 10 to 20 percent contingency into your budget," in order to account for unanticipated costs such as dry rot, etc.
Another favorite is the "junky storage closet to high-end en suite," which transformed a small closet into a bathroom. Given the re-sale value when adding a bathroom, the renovators "spared no expense in the new bathroom," particularly due to the space's Tribeca location. Mosaic Carrara marble tile complements clear glass, a wall mounted toilet and polished nickel accents. The result is a perfect en-suite to enhance the master bedroom.
